All methods of increasing the power of an automobile engine have both positive and negative sides. All these methods are used in one way or another to give the car improved dynamic and speed properties.
Instructions
Step 1
An increase in the engine displacement is carried out by replacing the crankshaft or by boring (increasing the diameter) of the cylinders. Along with the power, so does the thrust. The method is applicable to almost any car, but it leads to a drop in engine efficiency and an increase in fuel consumption.
Step 2
The increase in compression ratio is achieved by milling the lower plane of the cylinder head, installing pistons with a more convex upper part or a modified camshaft. Allows you to increase engine efficiency, increase power and reduce fuel consumption. On the other hand, after this modernization, it is necessary to use a higher quality gasoline with a higher octane number.
Step 3
Chip tuning changes the program of the electronic control unit, increasing the engine power. When applying chip tuning, all limiters (power, speed, revs) are removed. Chip tuning programs aimed at increasing power and torque neglect the environmental friendliness, economy and engine resource. The programs of "light" chip tuning have almost no drawbacks, but they give a small increase in power due to the elimination of errors in the serial versions of the software.
Step 4
You can reduce the resistance to the flow of incoming air by installing a zero resistance air filter, altering the throttle body, boring and grinding the intake manifold, replacing the valves with valves with an increased diameter and boring of the air passages. In addition to the relative high cost of the process and the weak effect of increasing the power, there are no drawbacks.
Step 5
Reducing the resistance to the flow of exhaust gases is achieved by installing a special exhaust system with larger diameter pipes and exhaust manifolds with a minimum number of bends.
Step 6
Installing a turbocharger (compressor) on a car allows you to increase the amount of fuel mixture combusted in the cylinders by supplying it under increased pressure. A very effective and widespread means of tuning a car: many car manufacturers have established the production of compressors and turbines for their models. Disadvantages: loss of resource, especially on engines that were not originally designed for the installation of a supercharger (compressor). In addition, a turbocharged engine is more demanding on the quality of fuel and oil, and has an increased fuel consumption.
Step 7
Installation of an intercooler - an intercooler of the supplied air. The cooled air is compressed, which allows a slightly larger amount of air in the fuel mixture to be supplied to the cylinders. It is installed in tandem with a turbocharger and complements it, enhancing the positive effect of the application.
Step 8
The lightening of the mass of the moving parts of the engine leads to an increase in power by reducing the energy losses for setting the motor parts in motion. For this, pistons, connecting rods and valves are replaced with similar ones made of lighter alloys.
