Increasing the power and efficiency of the engine is the main task of tuning. This can be done by installing a turbocharger in the air supply system. But you can get creative, repair the engine and replace most of the parts and assemblies with lightweight ones.
Instructions
Step 1
Install a turbine if you want to double or triple the engine power. This is the easiest way, only problems may arise with installation on carburetor engines. The fact is that the carburetor operates on the pressure difference in the chambers. If you give it a little more air, then the engine will not add power, but will lose it. With injection engines, everything is much better, since turbines are usually installed on engines with forced fuel injection.
Step 2
The meaning of the turbine is that an impeller is installed in the exhaust manifold, which is driven by the exhaust gases. On the same shaft with this impeller, a turbine is installed, which is an air pump of two gears. Through filters of zero resistance, air enters the pump, which creates pressure. Then the compressed air is mixed with gasoline and the resulting mixture is fed into the combustion chamber under high pressure. But turbine failures occur with certain engines. Therefore, the ideal option would be to install a system of two turbines combined in one housing.
Step 3
Repair the engine and upgrade its components if you decide to increase power without using a turbine. This will require a number of measures to lighten the engine components. The pistons will need to be lightened by grinding off their skirts from the inside. Try to trust such things to experienced turners. The cylinders must be bored to the maximum possible diameter. Thus, its working volume increases. Consequently, the power also increases. The connecting rods should also be installed lightweight.
Step 4
Pay particular attention to the crankshaft. It must be facilitated as much as possible. Crankshafts are sold for tuning, which are much lighter than standard crankshafts. But do not forget to balance the shaft, otherwise beating and vibrations will be noticeable during engine operation. And this will only reduce the engine resource. The cylinder head must be ground off to reduce the combustion chamber. Please note that you will then need to use gasoline with a higher octane number.
Step 5
Lighten the flywheel. This is perhaps the most massive part on the crankshaft. You will need to grind metal off the inside of the flywheel. And do not forget about the balancing, which is carried out on the machine by drilling small holes. The lubrication system also needs a lot of attention. Despite the fact that the engine is easier to turn, its power has increased. Therefore, more lubricant is needed to operate. Troubleshoot the oil pump, reduce the gap between its housing and the plane of the engine crankcase.
