If, when trying to start the car, the starter “does not turn”, there are no characteristic sounds before starting the engine, or an unusual “hum” appears, the retractor relay may have failed. You can replace it yourself, for this you will first need to remove the starter.
Necessary
- - key "10";
- - key "13";
- - TORX E5 key;
- - screwdriver;
- - extension for socket heads;
- - socket head "10".
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the negative cable from the storage battery. Unscrew the nuts of the fasteners of the clamps, loosen the tightening and remove the air intake hose, first from the air filter housing, and then from the air intake itself.
Step 2
Remove the air intake. Then unscrew the nuts securing the heat shield. Using an extension and a 10-point socket, unscrew the bolt securing the shield to the bracket of the right engine support from the bottom of the car and remove the heat-insulating shield.
Step 3
Remove the lower starter mounting bolt at the bottom of the vehicle. Remove the two upper starter mounting bolts.
Step 4
Remove the connector from the starter solenoid terminal. Unscrew the nut and remove the wire from the upper contact bolt of the relay. Then lift the starter up.
Step 5
Unscrew the nut securing the contact wire of the solenoid relay using a 13”socket wrench. Remove the bolts securing the relay to the starter. It is better to do this using a TORX E5 wrench.
Step 6
Disengage the relay armature with the drive lever and remove the retractor. Install a new part. Make sure that the solenoid tip engages with the actuator arm.
Step 7
Reinstall the starter and connect the wires in reverse order.
