Bendix is an integral part of the starter that is required to start the engine. If a metallic sound appears at start-up, it is necessary to replace the bendix, having previously dismantled the starter.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare a set of wrenches, hex wrenches and screwdrivers. Open the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Lift the vehicle onto a lift or drive it into a viewing hole. If a motor protection is installed, remember to remove it.
Step 2
Using a wrench, unscrew the battery positive lead to the solenoid relay. After that, remove two terminals from it, carefully monitoring the condition of the insulation on the wires. Using the hex wrench, unscrew the bracket.
Step 3
Using a spanner wrench, unscrew the lower bolt that secures the starter. This process can be a lot of hassle. After that, unscrew the upper mounting bolt, for this you need a ratchet with two spacers and a universal joint at the end. Finally, detach the bracket that secures the starter to the block. Remove the starter carefully.
Step 4
Unscrew the studs that run along the entire starter and secure the cover, then divide the starter into two parts. Take the cover in your hands and, having unscrewed two screws, remove the casing, retaining ring, washer. Pull out the brush assembly and rotor carefully. Clean the starter housing and rotor thoroughly with a brush.
Step 5
Knock the retaining ring down and remove it from the rotor shaft. After that, remove the bendix and replace it. Check the condition of the bushings and forks. To remove the plug, carefully pull out the rubber plug and remove the part you need. Release it from the clip and inspect it carefully.
Step 6
Press out the bushings using a socket of the appropriate size. If the bushings are badly worn, then they need to be replaced. They are driven back with a hammer. Remember to hit lightly and through a wooden backing. Reassemble everything in reverse order and check the starter performance.
