Necessary

  • - socket wrenches;
  • - spanner keys;
  • - sandpaper.

Instructions

Step 1

Getting started, it will be superfluous to study in advance the peculiarity of the technological and structural structure of the starter installed on the VAZ 2109. And it consists in the fact that the shaft sleeve is not attached to the starter, but is installed in the seat of the clutch housing intended for this. This part is subject to severe wear, so it needs to be replaced periodically.

Step 2

To change the starter for a VAZ 2109, you first need to remove the old one. To do this, de-energize the car and drive it into the inspection pit. This is done in order to make it easier to remove the lower engine protection.

Step 3

Now disconnect all wires from the traction relay to remove the block from its connector. After that, unscrew all the nuts and remove the high-voltage supply wire from the battery.

Step 4

Further, having unscrewed the screws around the entire perimeter, remove the engine crankcase protection, and then immediately unscrew the two nuts with which the starter is attached to the block. But, before removing the starter completely, unscrew another nut located at the top of the engine compartment.

Step 5

To install a new starter, all of the above steps must be performed in reverse order. But before that, be sure to lubricate the bendix, namely, its gear. In addition, clean the traction relay terminals using ordinary sandpaper. This will avoid a significant voltage drop in the circuit, which can lead to poor starting of the starter.

Step 6

After the preparatory processing, being in the inspection pit, install the starter in its original place, and then screw the fastening nuts. They must be tightened in turn in order to prevent the starter from skewing.

Step 7

After the nuts are tightened, put the terminal on the contact bolt, and after tightening another nut, insert the terminal block. Now you need to check the performance of the starter and install the engine crankcase protection in its regular place.
