Step 1
Try to determine the nature of the cause of the change in the sound of the muffler. Try idling a little. Step 2
Drive your car onto an overpass or pit to gain access to the muffler located under the bottom of the car. Examine it carefully for mechanical damage. Whistling can occur from crevices or small holes in the surface. If any are found, they must be eliminated.
Step 3
Check the muffler and exhaust manifold connections. It happens that the muffler nozzle jumps out of the manifold socket, and the muffler just hangs on the mountings. Rotten metal can also be the cause. Dismantle the muffler by disconnecting the clamps and fasteners. Assess the state of your iron. If it is in poor condition, purchase a new muffler. You can also try to revive the old one. To do this, carefully weld all the cracks. Thoroughly clean and wash the muffler before welding. Let the muffler cool down and reinstall it, check it is working properly.
Step 4
Install special nozzles on the muffler outlet nozzles. This method will achieve the desired result if you want to give the exhaust system a sporty sound. In car dealerships, you will find a large number of different attachments. The thing is that the air, passing through the nozzle, begins to swirl. The swirls create an additional sound effect. Remember that nozzles can only be installed on a working muffler. Do not use several nozzles at the same time, as this will impede the movement of the exhaust gases.
Step 5
Install a new exhaust system. This is the most radical way. Installing a new system will not only give your car a bass sound, but also add a couple of horsepower under the hood. The disadvantage of this method is the rather high cost.
