The air filter, like any other part of the car, has its own expiration date. If you do not replace the filter within the deadlines set by the manufacturer, then the engine will run out of air. This means that the wear resistance of parts will decrease and fuel consumption will increase.
Necessary
- - wrench;
- - Phillips screwdriver;
- - new air filter;
- - cleaning agent.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the hood and locate the air filter. Depending on the design of the car (carburetor or injection engine), the filter can be either directly above the carburetor or far from the outlet. It is also worth considering that the air filter can be open and closed.
Step 2
Prepare your place of work. Ensure the vehicle is stationary using the rear wheel stoppers. Put the car in first gear, pull out the handbrake.
Step 3
Disconnect the tube from the air filter carefully. Regardless of the type of filter, this must be done to replace the part and check the condition of the pipe. Disassemble the box that contains the filter itself. To do this, unscrew a couple of screws and small nuts. Sometimes there are problems with the screws, and then you still have to fiddle with the hoses that are attached to the box with clamps. The mounts themselves are fragile and easily damaged. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid dismantling the hoses.
Step 4
Remove the air filter and inspect the box. It is necessary to thoroughly clean it from the inside so that there is no dirt or small stones that get there during a long time of car operation. To be sure, take a piece of rag, old towel, or napkin and wipe down the inside of the box body. Also pay attention to the cleanliness of the pipe through which the air flows from the filter to the engine.
Step 5
Install a new filter. Make sure that the filter "fits" correctly, its geometry is not broken, there are no protruding parts above the bottom of the box. Now take the lid and close the box by securing it with the screws. Rebuild all hoses and clamps, re-assemble the entire filter, including the nipple. In the case of an injection engine, the correct installation of the cover is monitored by a special sensor. If the filter is not properly fixed or the cover gap is not, the engine will simply not start.
