Cabin air filters protect your vehicle's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems from dust, dirt, odors and soot. A dirty filter impedes air flow and can cause cooling problems in the vehicle interior. But worst of all, perhaps a dirty car air filter can harm the health of children, the elderly and those with allergies or asthma. The cabin air filter must be changed every 20,000 kilometers or more, depending on the operating conditions.
Necessary
- - replaceable filter
- - set of wrenches
- - a damp clean cloth
- - vacuum cleaner
Instructions
Step 1
Determine if your car has a cabin air filter. Most cars have had such filters since 2001. Some European automakers have started using them since the 1980s, and American ones since 1995.
To resolve this issue, it will be advisable to either look in the manual for your car, or contact your local dealer selling cars of your brand and consult him.
Step 2
Determine the location of the filter. In most cars, the cabin air filter is located either directly in the cabin under the dashboard or under the hood. Finding the filter under the hood will not be difficult, but in order to find it inside the car you will have to work a little: most often the filter is located behind the glove box, so you will have to remove it by unscrewing a few screws. Behind the glove compartment, you will most likely find a small plastic cover that covers the filter. Remove e and proceed with replacement.
Step 3
Remove the used filter. If your filter is located directly in the passenger compartment, in order to remove it, you do not need any special tools, except for a screwdriver to pick up the edge of the filter. If your car's cabin air filter is located under the hood, you may need to remove the wipers or the washer reservoir to remove it.
Step 4
Clean the filter area. You can simply wipe the niche where the cabin air filter is located with a damp cloth, or you can vacuum the regular place for the filter to get rid of the remaining dust and dirt.
Step 5
Install a new filter. Once you have done this, reassemble all the parts that had to be removed during installation in reverse order.
