Today, it is almost impossible to repair a car battery in a service. Auto workshops do not replace lead plates, glue damaged housings, etc. Thus, all old batteries are sent for recycling. If you don't want to buy a new part, try glueing the old one.
Instructions
Step 1
In most cases, lead plates become unusable, which eventually wear out and wear off. To assemble one working battery, take some good plates and weld them into one case.
Step 2
To do this, clean the top surface of the battery case, cut a rectangular hole in the center and separate the contact jumper. After that, rearrange the plates, connect the contact line with a solder and glue the battery. In this situation, the main thing is to achieve complete tightness.
Step 3
Of course, it is better to use heat welding, during which the heated parts of the body are pressed against each other and held in this position for 2-5 minutes. This allows even large gaps to be closed. If this is your situation, use an extra strip that you can cut from another non-working battery. Before carrying out this operation, drain the electrolyte and dry the device. Pay the closest attention to the place of the joint. At the end of the work, subject the drained electrolyte to a double charge-discharge, which normalizes the performance of the can.
Step 4
If you do not want to delve into such difficulties, simply purchase glue in a special store that reliably glues plastics and is designed for devices working with aggressive media (this is the category of substances that includes electrolyte). In particular, use epoxy glue, also called cold welding. With its help, you will prevent acid corrosion of the battery case.
Step 5
To achieve a high quality bond, clean the battery case from all dirt and dust, apply a degreasing agent to it, dry it and sand it with sandpaper. This will help the glue stick. After gluing, wait a few hours, then pour in the electrolyte and start using the battery.
