The VIN of the vehicle is the basic information about the vehicle. Knowing it, you can easily find out the details you are interested in about the fate of this car. However, not everyone knows how to correctly decipher this alphanumeric combination.
Necessary
vehicle registration certificate with the VIN-code
Instructions
Step 1
To get information about the manufacturer, year of manufacture and other details related to your car, do not be lazy, look in the technical passport of the vehicle. Here you will see the VIN (from the English Vehicle identification number). Its standards are accepted by both the European Union and the world's leading road transport giants. Remember that VIN includes 17 numbers and letters (always in Latin). However, you will not find alphabet characters such as I (i), O (o), or Q (q) in the IN-code. They are not there so that motorists do not confuse them with numbers.
Step 2
Beginning with the decryption, remember that the first character identifies the country of origin. So, for example, if the numbers from 1 to 5 are in the first place of the code, then this means that the car was manufactured in North America. However, in the first place can be not only numbers, but also letters. Pointing to the letters S through Z will tell you that the car is from Europe.
Step 3
The 2nd position in the VIN is the manufacturing company. Each brand has its own letter. As a rule, it is the first letter in the name of the car. For example, Audi is A, Ferrari, Fiat, Ford is F. But of course there are exceptions. They must be specified either through an authorized dealer or via the Internet. The third character in the VIN code indicates the type of vehicle. that is, having deciphered its meaning, you can understand that there is a passenger car in front of you.
Step 4
The next five values (4 to 8) define the characteristics of the vehicle. If you want to clarify what type of body the vehicle has or, for example, the type of engine, then you need these numbers. Some manufacturers use number eight to describe the type of engine (this is necessary in the case when different models are used in the manufacture of models).
Step 5
When decrypting the VIN code, remember that the 9th position is the check digit. And the 10th indicates the model year. From 1980 to 2000, it was indicated by the corresponding letter. Zeros were marked in the code with the corresponding numbers. So, for example, if the car was released from the assembly line in 2002, then you will find the number 2 in the identification code. However, starting from 2010, the moment of car production is again spelled out in a letter meaning. Please be aware that the model year may differ from the calendar year and depends on the manufacturer's decision. Its beginning, as a rule, is determined by the moment of launching a new brand.
Step 6
If you want to know at which plant your "swallow" was assembled, then pay attention to the 11th character in the VIN-code. But from the 12th to the 17th position, the chassis numbers are indicated, which are determined by the manufacturer.
