Rubber products, such as car tires, are subject to aging. Experts advise changing tires after the expiration date, even if they have not been used. Most tires have a shelf life of 5-6 years from the date of manufacture. Leading manufacturers give a 10-year guarantee for their products.

Instructions

Step 1

Determine the date of manufacture of the tire by its identification number. The difference between tire identification numbers and vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and other consumer product identification numbers is that the tire serial number contains information about the week and year of production of a particular batch of goods.

Step 2

Please note that the tire identification number must begin with the Latin letters DOT, followed by a code combination of ten, eleven or twelve Latin letters and numbers that carry information about the country of manufacture, tire size, manufacturer code, week and year of product manufacture. According to the requirements for road safety, the serial number of the established sample must be applied to all tires.

Step 3

For tires manufactured after 2000, look at the last four digits of the ID number. The first two digits indicate the week of manufacture, the last two digits indicate the year of manufacture. For example, if the identification number is DOT U6LLLMLR 0100, the product was released in the first week of 2000.

Step 4

Examine the tire from both sides. In accordance with the established requirements, the identification number is completely applied to one of the sidewalls, and the letters DOT and the first digits of the serial number must be on the sidewall on the other side.

Step 5

Use a different method to determine the date of manufacture of a tire manufactured before the year 2000. The fact is that the system of tire identification numbers, which was used before 2000, took into account a maximum tire life of no more than 10 years. Therefore, information about the week and year of release was encrypted in the last three digits. The first two digits were the week of manufacture, and the last digit was the year. For example, the identification number of the type DOT EJ3J DFM 519 means that the product was released in the 51st week of the 9th year (meaning the current decade).
