When selling a car, many car owners try to hide the real date of its production. The year of manufacture of the car can be determined by the VIN number of the body, which is indicated on the car. If the body number does not indicate the required date, then you have to use other reliable information that can be provided by the customs authorities during customs clearance.
Instructions
Step 1
Usually, the year of manufacture is determined by the VIN, which is made in accordance with certain international standards. The body number itself does not carry information about the exact date of manufacture, but it can be used to determine the model year.
Step 2
Keep in mind that the international standard for VIN is only indicative, and each manufacturer defines the position of the number in its own way. You can find the number plate under the hood of the car. If the gauge is missing, check the indicator on the front of the frame or on the cross member under the bumper. Sometimes the number is knocked out along the top edge of the TV under the hood.
Step 3
Look at the tenth position of the VIN, which is the designation of the model year. If the car was produced in 1980 or 2010, then the 10th number will be A. If the car is 1987, then the letter H will be indicated accordingly, but 1998 is indicated as J. A car produced in 92 will be indicated by the letter N, in 93 - P, and 94 - R. The 1997 car has a VIN in the VIN code, and from 2001 numbering begins to be used (number 1 is indicated in the 10th position), up to 2009 (number 9). Further, the Latin alphabet is used again without the letters Y, O, Q, U and Z.
Step 4
If you still can't figure out the year of issue, then you can use one of the online VIN decryption services on the Internet.
Step 5
You should not trust only the body number, since it does not contain accurate data on the production of a car. In addition to checking the VIN, pay attention to the accompanying documents, which indicate the exact date of issue of the car. Take a look at the electrical cables and wires under the hood as they also contain valid information. Look at the windshield, where the last 2 digits of the number are the year of its manufacture, which coincides with the year of manufacture of the car.
