The windshield cover is attached to the car body using special plastic fasteners - caps, consisting of a head and a leg with a ribbed surface. To remove the cover, you need to pry it with a screwdriver at the attachment points and turn it up.
The windshield covers are located at the bottom between the windscreen wipers and the bonnet. The pads are designed to seal the joint between the windshield and the car body. If moisture gets inside the passenger compartment, it is necessary to remove the linings and inspect their condition. Removing the windshield linings and their possible subsequent replacement can be performed both at home and in a specialized auto repair shop.
Sequence of work
1. Remove the wiper arms.
2. Remove the outer side rear-view mirrors. To dismantle each mirror, you need to unscrew the 3 fixing screws.
3. Remove the linings.
For fastening to the car body, the windshield lining has grooves that serve to fix it with special plastic caps. The pistons consist of a head that fits into a groove and a leg that has a notch and a ribbed outer surface for fixing in a corresponding hole in the body. The ribbed base ensures high reliability of the piston orientation.
When removing the lining, the piston head may break, therefore, before starting work, you should stock up on them with an additional set. Also, when removing, part of the plastic lining may chip, so this operation must be performed with extreme caution.
First of all, it is necessary to release the nose of the plastic trim from the engagement, turning it towards the top of the car. After that, you need to take the upper part of the body wing away from the side of the car and continue turning the lining. Then you need to pull the pad down so that it disengages from the piston head.
When removing the cover, you can pry it off with a screwdriver, which will facilitate the release of the part from the mounts. Features of dismantling the windshield lining of a particular car should be described in the operating documentation.
Design features
Each car model has its own design and mounting features of the windshield linings. The number of caps may also differ. Some cars use 2 types of caps - long for the main fixing and short for fixing the intermediate sections.
The overlays are applied in the reverse order. In some cases, before installation, it may be necessary to repaint the area of the body surface hidden under the linings and affected by corrosion as a result of the negative effects of moisture.
