Car mirrors often suffer from contact with obstacles and other vehicles. And Mercedes is no exception. A damaged rearview mirror must be repaired or replaced with a new one. And first of all - take it off.
Instructions
Step 1
To remove manually adjusted mirrors, release the bracket for the mirror adjustment handle and remove this handle. Remove the mirror trim from the inside of the door. To do this, detach its upper part, slide the cover up and remove it from the door. Unscrew the three screws securing the mirror and remove the mirror itself. Remove the rubber seal located between the mirror and the door. If the seal is damaged, replace it with a new one. When installing the mirror, proceed in the reverse order. Backlash in the mirror adjustment mechanism is eliminated by tightening the screw located near the adjustment knob.
Step 2
To remove the mirror with an electric adjustment drive, remove the decorative strip from the inside of the door in the same way as in step 1. Unscrew the screw securing the mirror electrical connector and disconnect the connector itself. After unscrewing the screws securing the mirror, remove it from the door. Remember to remove and check the condition of the rubber seal between the mirror and the door. Install in reverse order.
Step 3
To remove the mirror glass, turn the glass so that its inner side sinks into the mirror body as much as possible. In other words, press on the glass of the mirror from the inside forward. Insert a plastic or wooden wedge between the body and the mirror glass. Remove the mirror glass carefully. Please note: an electric motor is glued to the mirror glass. Therefore, being careful when removing it will prevent the glass from breaking. If equipped with a heated mirror, disconnect the electrical connectors from the heated mirror element. With the mirror glass removed, it is possible to remove the mirror adjustment motor.
Step 4
On older Mercedes models, there is an external mounting of the mirror to the door on three bolts. To remove it, fold the mirror back, unscrew the bolts and take the mirror body out. At the same time, use a screwdriver to lightly press on the spring clip holding the mirror. After removing the mirror housing, disengage the spring in the upper part of the glass. Disconnect the mirror heating wires.
