The stove radiator is one of the most important elements of a car. There are several reasons why it can fail. In any case, if the radiator is defective and needs to be replaced, you can do it yourself without resorting to the services of a master.
Determine the cause of the breakdown
The first sign of a radiator breakdown is antifreeze leakage. The cause may be a rusty metal pipe, a faucet, or the radiator itself. In any case, a thorough visual inspection is necessary to determine the damage. If it's all about the stove tap or pipe, just replace them. To do this, you do not need to disassemble the panel shroud and heatsink.
Often the fault is a faulty stove radiator. It can be repaired or completely replaced. If the car has a stove of an old modification and a copper radiator, it must be soldered, cleaned and tinned. You will need the help of a master radiator. You can repair the radiator yourself.
If an aluminum stove radiator is installed in the heating system, then it cannot be repaired. You will have to change it. Buy antifreeze, silicone sealant, 3 rubber pads. You will also need: regular and Phillips screwdrivers, open-end and socket wrenches for "7", "8" and "10".
Sequence of actions when replacing
First unscrew the two clamps from the engine compartment. They are located on the radiator pipes. After that, you need to remove the hoses. After unscrewing the mount, remove the rubber seal.
In the next step, it will be necessary to dismantle the radio panel located in the car. Take the key to "7". Carefully unscrew the stove crane drive cable fastener. Then disconnect the cable from the crane. Locate the four spring clips on the fan shroud. Take a screwdriver and remove them. Now you can pull the heater radiator out of the casing.
Tilt the cover down as far as possible. So that it does not interfere with your work, move it to the left.
Be sure to inspect the radiator itself, as well as the metal pipes and stove tap. Metal pipes should not show obvious signs of leakage or corrosion. If this is the case, the tube must also be replaced. The same should be done if the tap handle has traces of leakage or it is bitten. Such a crane is replaced with a new one.
Usually, when changing the radiator of the stove, the tube and the tap are twisted onto the new radiator from the old one.
Rubber gaskets must be lubricated with silicone sealant, and only then installed in place. After that, carefully screw the outlet pipe to the radiator together with the tap. Be careful not to crush the gasket or strip the threads. Lubricate the radiator pipes with sealant, and then connect rubber hoses to the pipes. Coolant will be supplied through them.
After completing this stage, the replacement of the stove radiator can be considered complete. Start assembling. It is carried out in the reverse order. Add antifreeze if necessary. Start the engine and check the tightness of the connections of the pipes and hoses.
