Side mirrors are very important parts of every vehicle as they allow the driver to see the situation behind. It is thanks to them that the driver can safely rebuild from one lane to another. But the side mirrors are often subject to mechanical stress and therefore require repair.
Necessary
- - film;
- - building hair dryer;
- - screwdrivers;
- - glue;
- - warm water;
- - degreaser.
Instructions
Step 1
Wash your vehicle before repairing. If this is not possible, then try to wash the side on which the broken side mirror is located. This is necessary in order not to get dirty.
Step 2
Open the hood and remove the negative terminal from the battery if the mirror has a turn signal repeater or an electric adjustment mechanism. This will avoid the risk of a short circuit in the on-board power supply system. Open the door to which the broken mirror is attached. It needs to be dismantled.
Step 3
Remove the plugs on the front side of the mirror mount, under which the self-tapping screws are located. Unscrew them carefully, remembering the location of each. If the screw stops twisting, then make a few turns in the opposite direction and continue to twist it further.
Step 4
Click on the mirror mount to reveal the inner latches. Do not jerk the case strongly, as you may damage the wires. Locate the wire block and disconnect it. If there are several pads, then mark them so as not to confuse places during reassembly.
Step 5
Examine the removed mirror. The cracked mirror surface should be replaced with a new one, while buying the exact same plate so that the left and right mirrors do not differ from each other. If the adjustment mechanism stops working, then you need to check the condition of the drive cables. They wear out very often and need to be replaced. Replace the light bulb or LED with new ones if the turn signal stops working.
Step 6
Polish the mirror case if it is scratched. A cracked housing must be replaced with a new one. If it is not possible to purchase a new mirror, then you can try to fix the old one. To do this, remove the mirror plate and the adjustment mechanism from the housing together with the heating and turn signal. Wash the case with warm water. Degrease it. Apply glue to the edges of the crack and squeeze the body thoroughly, allowing the glue to set. You can also solder the crack with a heated hot air gun.
Step 7
Cover the case with a film matching the color of the case to completely hide the traces of repair. Reassemble the mirror in reverse order and reinstall it. Check the functionality of the repaired mirror.
