Rear-view mirrors in a car are an important control element, without which it is very difficult to perform some maneuvers. If the mirror stops adjusting in one of the planes, it is necessary to disassemble and repair it.
It is necessary
- - screwdriver;
- - an adjusting cable;
- - pliers.
Instructions
Step 1
To remove the mirror from the car, remove the plug secured to the door with three caps. Next, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the three screws. Take out the mirror carefully.
Step 2
Next, start disassembling the mirror itself. To remove the mirrored reflective element, pry it on one side with your fingers and, using some force, pull it out. Please note that it is difficult to remove it. If you cannot pick it up with your fingers, use a screwdriver to do this, but wrap a cloth around it to avoid damaging the surface.
Step 3
Inspect the inside of the mirror, most often the cause of the breakdown is a broken cable, with the help of which the regulation takes place. If you have another broken mirror on hand to remove it from, or if you bought this necessary part from an auto parts store, try replacing the cable in your rearview mirror.
Step 4
Unscrew the screws that secure the turntable, now you can see the torn off cable itself. Remove the mirror cover from the base by also unscrewing the screws. Do not forget to fold the fasteners separately so as not to confuse in the future.
Step 5
Remove the boot-seal and the control lever, unscrew two more screws. Now proceed directly to replacing the rear-view mirror cable. Find the torn one among the multi-colored (blue, red, yellow) cables and take a similar part of the same color from the donor mirror.
Step 6
Insert the cable into the turntable first, then into the adjusting arm. If possible, replace all the cables at once, because if they are already worn out, adjacent ones may break in the near future.
Step 7
Reassemble the mirror in reverse order and install it on the car. Check if it works.
