Despite the fact that Priora's timing belt is almost twice as wide as on cars of the tenth family, it requires periodic replacement. The first replacement of the timing belt should be carried out after 200 thousand kilometers. But every 45 thousand it is necessary to inspect it for defects and deviations.
Necessary
- - jack;
- - special key for the tension roller;
- - wheel chocks;
- - a set of keys and screwdrivers;
- - a set of hex keys;
- - new timing belt, tension and support rollers, coolant pump.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the vehicle for repair by placing chocks under the left rear wheel. Rip off the bolts on the right front wheel, then lift the right front side on a jack and remove the hub bolts completely. Remove the wheel and put it under the car, it will be insurance if the car suddenly starts falling off the jack. Open the hood and, using hex wrenches, remove the bolts holding the dirt shield to the engine block. Remove the cover carefully to avoid damaging it. Under it is the entire gas distribution mechanism.
Step 2
Loosen the generator attachment to the upper bracket, then remove the generator drive belt. Pull the alternator housing towards the engine block, the belt tension will decrease, after which it can be easily removed from the pulleys. At the same time, look at the condition of the alternator belt. If it has cuts or cracks, be sure to replace it with a new one. Remove the rubber plug from the clutch block to reveal a view of the flywheel. There is a slotted metal strip in the sight glass, it must be aligned with the mark on the flywheel. This is done by turning the crankshaft clockwise, nothing else.
Step 3
Align the mark on the flywheel, while the marks on the camshaft gears should align with the slots on the rear timing case cover. If all the marks coincide with the slots, then this means that the gas distribution mechanism is set correctly, it will work correctly. Now, with the help of an assistant, who will fix the flywheel to the crown with a thick screwdriver, unscrew the bolt from the crankshaft. By unscrewing this bolt, you will remove the alternator drive pulley. Now you can start removing the timing belt.
Step 4
Remove the tension roller mounting bolt, the belt will slack. Then unscrew the support roller. When replacing the timing belt, be sure to change the rollers as well. It is also advisable to replace the cooling system pump. Carefully remove the belt from the pulleys, being careful not to knock the shafts off the marks. Having got rid of the old belt, proceed with installing a new one.
Step 5
Screw in the new rollers, then put the belt on the crankshaft pulley. Make sure that the pulley does not stray from the mark, have an assistant fix the flywheel with a screwdriver. Stretch the belt, putting it on the rollers, pump, camshaft pulleys. Check that the tags match as often as possible so that there are no surprises after final assembly. The support roller is tightened immediately, but the tension roller must first be turned with a special key to tighten the belt. Only then should the bolt be tightened. Further assembly of the mechanism is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
