One of the most fashionable trends in taillights (lamps) tuning is their coloring. The most popular colors are black or body color. But do not choose red or orange - this is misleading to other road users and can lead to an emergency.

It is necessary

  • - industrial dryer;
  • - spray paint can;
  • - sealant;
  • - screwdrivers;
  • - gloves.

Instructions

Step 1

Before starting all work, disconnect the negative cable from the corresponding battery terminal. Disconnect the wires from the taillights (lights) and then remove them. In doing so, follow the instructions for repairing your car. The next step is to disassemble the taillights.

Step 2

Modern car headlights are mounted on a sealant. In order to detach the glass of such headlights from their body, thoroughly warm it up with an industrial hair dryer along the body / glass line. This will melt the sealant holding them together. To do this, set the switch on the hair dryer to a temperature of 300 degrees and gently warm up the joint joint, keeping the headlamp at a distance of 2-3 cm from the hair dryer nozzle. Keep the speed of the hair dryer even and constant. Within 5-7 minutes, it is necessary to walk at least 5 times around the entire circumference of the connection.

Step 3

When the sealant has melted, carefully detach the case and glass without using excessive force. Pry with a screwdriver if necessary. Immediately, before the sealant hardens, clean the surface of the connector from its remnants. Disassemble the headlamp into its constituent elements: bulbs, reflectors and their frames (substrates). If the reflectors and their substrates are made in one piece, cover the surfaces of the reflectors with masking tape. Only paint substrates.

Step 4

Prepare reflector frames for painting. To do this, sand them with sanding paper. After that, degrease the surfaces with acetone, gasoline or a special liquid. Prepare 1-2 cans of enamel of the desired color. Shake them thoroughly for 1-2 minutes before using them. Spray for the first time on the surface of an unusable object to remove foreign particles from the can nozzle.

Step 5

When painting substrates, spray at a distance of 20-30 cm from the surface to be painted. Paint the reflector frames of both headlights at the same time to avoid possible color differences. Move the can evenly, at a low and constant speed, either in a rectilinear direction, or making circular movements in a swirling spiral. After finishing painting, dry the substrates thoroughly, taking measures to prevent dust from entering the fresh paint.

Step 6

After drying is complete, reassemble the headlights. Place all threaded connections on a sealant to avoid spontaneous loosening of the screws from vibration. In this case, glue the body and glass with a sealant along the parting line. Squeeze the headlight housing and glass and fix in this position in any way. Wait for the time specified in the instructions for the sealant, which is necessary for it to harden. Only then install the taillights on the car, connect the wires to them and check their operation.
