Wherever the gas tank is installed in the car, there is always a risk of damage. If it is under the bottom, it can be damaged by impact or even a stone flying out from under the wheels. If the tank is installed in the luggage compartment, it can be damaged by corrosive processes resulting from moisture condensation. In any case, the tank will need to be welded.

Necessary

  • - a tool for dismantling and installing a gas tank;
  • - air compressor;
  • - gas-burner;
  • - anti-corrosion compound.

Instructions

Step 1

Drain the remaining fuel, then remove the gas tank from the mounts. Visually locate the damage. If it is not obvious or there is a suspicion that the tank has leaked in several places, identify all damage. To do this, cut out the rubber cap that firmly covers the neck of the gas tank. Punch a hole in it to secure the compressor tube. Plug the hole from which fuel is supplied to the engine. Apply compressed air and locate and mark the leaks.

Step 2

Flush the tank to ensure that no fuel vapors remain there, which can detonate during welding. To do this, fill it completely with water several times and drain it. Do not fill the tank completely with water one last time and position it so that there is an air gap in the welding area. Attach a flexible hose to the filler neck and raise it above the level of the gas tank so that heated gas can escape through it.

Step 3

Weld up the damage to the gas tank with a gas burner. When doing the work, be sure to pay attention not to burn through the metal. Allow the tank to cool down after stitching. Then fill it with compressed air and immerse it in water. If no air bubbles come out of the tank, the repair is over. Otherwise, repeat the procedure again, brewing the tank in the place where the compressed air bubbles came out.

Step 4

Let the gas tank dry completely. Then blow it with compressed air to keep as little water and steam as possible. If necessary, pressurized air to correct the dents on the gas tank. Treat the tank with a special compound anticorrosive and let it dry completely. Replace the tank. Refill with fuel, check again that the leak has been repaired. If there is no electric fuel pump, pump the fuel with a mechanical pump until it enters the carburetor.
