The reason for removing the front hub of a car, as a rule, is the wear of its bearings, which is evidenced by the appearance of extraneous noise emanating from the wheel of the car while driving. To make sure that your suspicions about the impending failure of bearings are correct, you need to determine in which hub (right or left) the malfunction has occurred.
Necessary
- - jack,
- - a key for wheels,
- - hub wrench.
Instructions
Step 1
At the preliminary stage in preparation for the upcoming repair, the car is installed on a level surface. The gear lever is moved to neutral, the parking brake handle is raised as high as possible, and wheel chocks are installed under the rear wheels.
Step 2
After that, both front wheels are alternately raised with a jack, which are rotated by hand in order to detect the noise of the bearings.
Step 3
Having determined in which hub the malfunction has arisen, the car is lowered on a jack, and four bolts of its fastening are released on the wheel, and the bearing fastening nut of the specified unit is also unscrewed by two or three turns.
Step 4
Then the machine is raised again on the jack and the corresponding side is mounted on a rigid support.
Step 5
Further, the wheel is dismantled from the car, and after removing it, the bolts of the front brake caliper are unscrewed.
Step 6
Having freed the specified brake mechanism from the fastening, so as not to interfere with further repairs, it is retracted to the side, after which the bearing fastening nut on the pivot pin (or CV joint) is unscrewed.
Step 7
At the final stage of dismantling the front hub, it is removed (if you're lucky) by hand or using a universal puller.
Step 8
After replacing worn bearings, all further steps for assembling the machine are carried out in the reverse order.
