When Russia introduced Euro 4 standards on its territory in 2007, carburetor engines were unable to meet such stringent requirements. Therefore, all newly produced and new imported cars can only be injection, but not carburetor. In light of these events, information and diagnostic methods for injectors have become relevant for most motorists.

Instructions

Step 1

If during a trip the Check Engine light suddenly turns on, this is the main signal of a malfunction in the fuel injection system. Diagnostic techniques for the injection motor help determine the specific malfunction. Keep your composure and don't get nervous if the Check Engine light comes on. If it goes out after a few seconds, it means that the self-diagnosis system is convinced that the motor is in good working order and the operation, most likely, was erroneous. If the light stays on, run diagnostics to find the problem.

Step 2

Don't overestimate your strength. Self-diagnosis of the injector without using a motor tester and measuring instruments will only be superficial and will only approximately determine the cause of the breakdown. Therefore, even in case of successful elimination of the malfunction, be sure to contact the service station as soon as possible.

Step 3

Check the crankshaft position sensor. This is the only sensor that causes complete engine failure. On the other hand, it is an extremely reliable element and cases of its failure are extremely rare. On domestic engines, it is located on the tide of the oil pump housing near the crankshaft pulley teeth.

Step 4

Check the fuel pump. If it is dirty, the engine will fail, loss of power, pops will be heard in the exhaust system. With a complete failure of the fuel pump, the engine will not be able to work. When checking the rest of the sensors and systems, keep in mind that even if they are malfunctioning, you can still drive to the garage or the nearest service station in emergency operation of the motor.

Step 5

The failure of the camshaft position sensor is difficult to recognize without some experience. In this case, the engine will operate in a non-standard mode of parallel-pairwise fuel supply, and all injectors will operate 2 times more often. But don't try to determine it by ear. The content of harmful substances in the exhaust gases will rise sharply, but the color of the exhaust will not change. It is possible to determine the failure of this sensor by the sharply increased fuel consumption and interruptions in the operation of the self-diagnosis system.

Step 6

Check the MAF sensor. Symptoms of its failure are the need to re-gas when starting the engine, loss of power and acceleration dynamics. At the beginning of acceleration, the response to the gas pedal may even improve. The color of the exhaust gas will become dirtier and the fuel consumption will increase. With this malfunction, the car is able to stretch several hundred kilometers without damage to itself.

Step 7

Determine a malfunction of the throttle position sensor by signs: a noticeable loss of power, unpleasant jerks of the car and dips during acceleration, unstable idle speed and the lack of engine braking. By the way, with this malfunction, the Check Engine warning lamp may not work, since the sensor may give an unstable signal about its performance.

Step 8

Determine the malfunction of the auxiliary air regulator by the difficult starting of the engine when the accelerator pedal is released, as well as by the unstable idle speed. To eliminate the malfunction, flush the idle passages of the throttle valve. If this does not help, replace the assembly.

Step 9

Determine the failure of the coolant temperature sensor by the difficult starting of the engine, especially in frost. In the event of this breakdown, it will be possible to start and warm up the engine only with active operation of the gas pedal. In hot weather, the engine will lose power and detonate.

Step 10

It is an extremely rare case of a malfunction of the knock sensor, determine if the Check Engine light comes on above 3000 rpm. and goes out if they fall below the specified value. This will make the engine extremely sensitive to the quality of the gasoline - any deviation in fuel quality will lead to severe knocking. To fix the problem, in most cases, it is enough to replace the wires leading to the sensor.

Step 11

A breakdown of the ignition coil is determined by the following features: dips during acceleration, loss of power, unstable idling, complete shutdown of one or more cylinders. To continue driving with this malfunction, turn off the injectors in the idle cylinders to prevent fuel from entering the crankcase.
