The undercarriage of the vehicle must always be in good condition. Especially the front wheel hub bearings. If you do not notice their destruction in time, then when driving, the car can sharply throw in the direction of the jammed front hub, which is fraught with serious consequences. Therefore, the bearing clearances should be checked regularly.
Necessary
- - balloon wrench;
- - key for 22;
- - chisel;
- - a hammer;
- - special tool 02.7834.9505.
Instructions
Step 1
Place the vehicle on a level surface. Block the rear wheels. Raise the front of the car and place it on the stands. Remove the front wheels. In order to check and adjust the clearance in the front wheel hub bearings, install a tester for checking the axial clearance of the hub bearings (special tool 02.7834.9505) under the wheel mounting bolt. It consists of a dial gauge and a stop leg.
Step 2
Set the indicator hand to "0". Place the device on the wheel, securing it to the rail. Place the leg of the device against the end of the steering knuckle shaft. Pull the hub towards you. Fix the gap. Its value should not exceed 0.15 mm. If it is larger, then the bearing clearance should be adjusted. To do this, take a 22 wrench and unscrew the adjusting nut from the trunnion. Install a new one, taking into account that the letter "L" is stamped on the parts with the left thread (on the right trunnion the thread is left, on the left - right). Take a torque wrench and tighten it to a torque of 19.6 Nm. When tightening, turn the hub in both directions so that the bearing rollers align themselves. Then loosen the nut and retighten it to 6.8 Nm. Take a screwdriver and make a mark on the washer under the nut, and then loosen the nut by turning it 25 degrees away from it.
Step 3
Lock the nut in this position. To do this, use a chisel and hammer. Align the first edge of the nut and lightly press the edge into the groove at the end of the steering knuckle. Check the front hub bearing clearance adjustment. It should be within 0.02-0.08 mm. Check the clearance in motion. To do this, drive 2-5 kilometers at an average speed, while using the brake pedal as little as possible. Stop the car, it is better to do it with the engine and the "handbrake", and touch the protective cap of the hub bearings with your hand. It should not be hot, but warm. Otherwise, the nut is overtightened and the bearings must be replaced.
