Replacing the rear wheel hub bearing on front-wheel drive cars of the VAZ model range is a laborious and complex process. In this case, the master cannot do without special pullers. Although some "craftsmen" manage to perform similar work with the help of a sledgehammer and improvised drifts.

It is necessary

  • Locksmith tool set,
  • universal wheel bearing puller,
  • torque wrench,
  • locksmith vice,
  • wheel stops,
  • jack.

Instructions

Step 1

First, you need to place the car on a flat surface. Then dismantle the protective cap from the hub with a screwdriver or a special blade, which prevents sand and dust from penetrating to the bearing of the unit.

Using a bit, bend the rib of the hub bearing nut out of the journal groove. And then unscrew it a little. Place stops under the front wheels of the car, release the parking brake and engage reverse gear. After that, unscrew all four bolts securing the wheel to the hub by two to three turns. Now jack up the rear of the machine with the beam securely supported and remove the wheel.

Step 2

Next, you need to dismantle the brake pads. Completely unscrew the hub bearing retaining nut and remove the steel washer underneath. Using a puller, dismantle the wheel hub, then clamp it in a locksmith's vice and remove the circlip that secures the bearing from the inside. Then remove the old bearing from the hub with a puller.

Step 3

The disassembled hub must be washed in kerosene or diesel fuel, strictly observing fire safety measures. Assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly:

- a new bearing is pressed in, - a retaining ring is installed,

- the hub is put on the trunnion, - insert the washer and screw on the nut, - brake pads are installed, - the wheel is mounted.

Step 4

With the help of a jack, the car is lowered onto a hard surface, then a new hub bearing nut is tightened with a force of 250 N / m, followed by its punching in the journal groove, as well as the bolts of the wheel disk to the hub. At the final stage, a protective cap is installed.
