The car provides the highest level of comfort and freedom when traveling, and no other means of transport can match it. However, in some cases, in order to get behind the wheel of your own or rented car in a foreign country, you will need to obtain international license.
This is definitely not enough in Arab countries and states where hieroglyphic writing is used. Until recently, it was quite possible to go to Europe with a Russian driver's license that corresponded to the international standard. However, in 2006 European countries adopted amendments to the form of driving documents, which are already in force in the US, EU and a number of other countries, but have not yet affected Russia. This means that you still have to take care of the availability of international rights before the trip. Without them, it will be almost impossible to get a car for rent, there will be a lot of difficulties when communicating with road police and insurance companies.
An international driver's license is not an independent document, but only attached to a national driver's license. This immediately means that no one can take them away. In fact, an international driver's license is a translation of a Russian license into a number of languages, which also specifies what types of cars the owner is allowed to drive. Externally, an international driver's license is a gray book of A6 format. Once again, please note that without a national driver's license with such a license, you cannot drive in Europe. You will also not need to take the exam.
To obtain international rights, documents are required:
- Driver's license and a document confirming its issuance (driver's card, confirmation of the issuance of a license indicating its series and number, a document confirming the completion of training indicating the series and number of the issued driver's license)
- Russian passport
- international passport
- Original and photocopy of a medical certificate of fitness for driving
- 2 photos 3, 5x4, 5 (matte without corner)
- Receipt for payment of the duty (100 rubles).
In general, the procedure for obtaining international rights is simple and, most importantly, quite fast: according to the experience of a number of drivers, it takes 40 minutes to complete it.
