Today manufacturers offer a large number of wipers, which differ not only in size, but in design. Choosing the most suitable wipers for VAZ means ensuring a safe ride in bad weather conditions.
Incorrectly chosen wiper blades, in addition to failing to perform the main "work", can damage the windshield, which will impair visibility and, ultimately, lead to the replacement of this expensive element of the car body. Therefore, when choosing VAZ brushes, it is recommended to focus on the type of design of the wipers and their size.
Types of wiper designs
The most traditional and common are frame wipers. The structure is based on a rigid frame on which a rubber band is attached. Classic brushes are considered reliable, but not very effective, but Russian VAZs are designed specifically for them. A number of Western manufacturers supply their cars with frameless windshield wipers. They have an original profile that allows better cleaning of the windshield and provides even pressure along the entire length. Another advantage is the low height, which improves visibility and aerodynamic qualities: it is easier for the air flow to bend around the wiper. In winter, frameless brushes are less prone to icing, because there are very few joints in the structure and there is no place for water to accumulate. However, frameless brushes are expensive and can only be installed on the car model for which they are intended, i.e. for a VAZ, such a product will not work.
How to choose brushes for VAZ cars
First of all, when choosing wipers, you need to pay attention to the mounting method: in modern Russian cars, a "hook" (or Hook, J-hook) is used, it is denoted by the letter "U". The most common hook sizes are 9x4 and 9x3. The second important point is the material for making the tape, which is used today as silicone. Ideally, it's best to have a couple of sets of brushes: one for the summer (hard option), the other for winter (soft, elastic, less prone to icing).
The next important parameter is size. For classic VAZ models, including the Niva, the length is 33-34 cm. Front-wheel drive models from 2108 to 2115 require the installation of brushes 51 cm long. The same size is needed for Priora and Largus. Brushes of different lengths are installed on Kalina and Lada Granta: 60 cm from the driver's side and 40 cm from the passenger side.
Despite the fact that the design of the VAZ involves installing only brushes with a pin lock ("classic") or "hook" type (more modern cars), it is possible to install brushes with other types of attachment. Installation can be done using special adapters.
