The winter season is a rather difficult period for many car owners, because in the cold the car refuses to start, the engine sometimes stalls. How to be here? If your car has a carburetor engine with carburetor and ignition set up, closing the throttle will start the car. If this is not your case, there are a few tips to get you started.
It is necessary
Gloves, mittens, a set of warm clothes, a blanket, a spare set of candles, lighting wires, cable, ether mixture for quick start, screwdriver, pliers and a set of keys
Instructions
Step 1
Adjust the ignition in advance, before the onset of cold weather. On a carbureted car, it is also useful to install contact ignition. If you have an injection engine, "fill in" the most recent firmware of the electronic control unit (ECU).
Step 2
Replace filters and candles even if they are not over. Fill with lower viscosity oil into the engine, transmission, axle (if the machine is all-wheel or front-wheel drive). In addition, you need to push through the trunk larvae and door locks, and also treat high-voltage wires with a special grease (for example, WD-40).
Step 3
Install a rechargeable battery with an increased capacity (for example, for a VAZ 2107, you should choose not a standard 55 Ah battery, but at least 60 Ah). Keep the battery warm by installing it in the vehicle for travel only. In order not to mess with it for a long time, turn on the high beam before turning the key for five seconds. The electrolyte will heat up, and the battery (if charged) will give out almost completely its nominal capacity.
Step 4
Even if the machine is out of gear, depress the clutch before starting a cold engine. This allows you to relieve unnecessary stress when starting the engine with a starter from the crankshaft of the vehicle. After warming up the engine to at least twenty degrees, smoothly release the clutch pedal, while controlling the movement of the machine. When the car jerks, squeeze back the clutch.
Step 5
In the winter season, it is not worth turning the starter for too long, a maximum of 5-10 seconds with intervals of 15 seconds between starting attempts. Rotating the starter too long can quickly drain the battery or flood the spark plugs.
Step 6
Before starting the car in frost, pump up gasoline with the gas pedal or a manual pump. In addition, slightly crank the starter before starting a cold engine for the first time, this will lubricate the engine parts after a long stay in the cold. If all these manipulations were unsuccessful (the car did not start, and the battery was completely dead), then you can try another method - "lighting" or "tie".
Step 7
If your attempts to start the car in winter on your own were unsuccessful, ask someone to "light" the car. To do this, you need to connect the wires from the working battery of another car to your own wires (they should always be in the interior of your car, because the luggage compartment lid or door may freeze and cannot be opened).
Step 8
Before asking the other driver to light the car, connect the wires so as not to be delayed. Do not turn your starter motor with someone else's battery for a long time. If the launch does not occur, go to the next method - "tie".
Step 9
Ask another driver to pull your car with a cable (like the wires for "lighting", it must be in the car at all times). To start a cold engine in this way, put in second gear, squeeze the clutch, turn on the ignition and give a readiness signal (headlights, horn, turn signal).
Step 10
When accelerating, release the clutch pedal sharply. When the car starts up, give a prearranged signal notifying about this. In addition, do not let the car stall by all means: put the transmission in neutral, and also keep the accelerated speed with the gas pedal. This method should never be used for a vending machine.
