How fuel consumption is calculated
There are many ways to account for consumption. There are special GPS sensors with their own level gauge, which is installed in the gas tank. Thus, the GPS unit computer keeps track of the fuel consumption and the distance traveled, and then receives the consumption.
Sensors with a level gauge are installed by trucking companies, and they are not cheap.
Another way is simpler and more reliable. If the car does not have a GPS system, which was written about above, or an on-board computer is not installed, then the first step is to go to the gas station and fill the tank full. Then set the mileage counter (if available) to 0 or record the current total mileage of the vehicle. Well, and accordingly, now you need to wait for the moment when the gasoline in the tank runs out, and you can calculate the consumption based on the mileage.
True, the measurements will not be very accurate, because they will be affected by many other factors, such as traffic jams, stops at traffic lights, or, if the measurement was made in winter, then the warming up of the car. But you can increase the accuracy of this method if you fill the tank with a smaller amount, for example 15-20 liters, and at the same time take a can of gasoline in order to top up if something happens, and then go to the track.
But before all this, also fix the mileage and the amount of gasoline. Such a calculation will be more accurate, because there is less interference to traffic on the highway and because the number of gear changes will be less, respectively, there are less jumps in engine speed. By the way, it is worth noting that on-board computers do not always show the correct consumption, especially those that are not provided in the car in the factory configuration and that were installed manually.
Even if the car has an on-board computer, it is worth checking it in any suggested way and checking the received calculations and computer calculations.
The last method is "old-fashioned". The calculation principle is almost the same. You need to fill the tank with a certain amount of gasoline, then drive 10 kilometers along a road of several types, for example, a city, rough terrain, a highway. And then measure how much fuel was used.

Well, in general, the consumption of a certain car is usually indicated by its manufacturer, and on the Internet you can find the consumption of any model and type of engine. For example, the consumption of all well-known nines, namely the VAZ-21093 with an 8-valve injection engine and a working volume of 1.5 liters along the highway per 100 km from 5, 3 to 7 liters, and in the city from 8 to 12, 5 liters.
