There are clearly not enough traffic police officers to keep the situation on the roads under relative control. And electronics comes to the rescue. Stationary photo radars are installed, as a rule, on potentially dangerous road sections with heavy traffic. They have been officially launched in Moscow since July 1, 2008.
In total, about 600 video cameras are planned to be installed in the capital in the near future. In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region, photoradars have already been installed and are working on 10 highways.
The practice of installing photo radars within the city in areas where general education schools and preschool institutions are located is spreading. This, of course, is justified, since it forces unscrupulous drivers to adhere to the specified speed limit, regardless of the situation on this site. Mobile photo radars, for example, the KRIS P model, can be installed on any sections of the route and for this reason they become an unpleasant surprise for careless drivers. In this case, a traffic police car serves as a mobile post for them, from the battery of which the radar speed meter is powered.
It is important to understand, and this especially concerns traffic police officials in the first place, that the main purpose of installing photo radars is to improve discipline on the roads. Yes, through financial punishment of careless drivers. But, nevertheless, it is not the replenishment of the police budget that should be pursued with the help of photo radars as hidden traps.
The use of impartial and incorruptible detectors of speed violations is also an important component in the fight against corruption and bribery in the traffic police. Therefore, the location of photoradars should in no way be a secret, but on the contrary, they should be marked with warning signs. Otherwise, it will again become a subject of corruption, the "secret" will be communicated to the elite and sold.
