Every car owner is faced with a tire change at least twice a year - in Spring and Autumn. Some people opt for all-season tires, but they are less effective than seasonal tires. Some car enthusiasts, having arrived at a tire fitting to replace the tires, find out that the tires they brought have become unusable. This is caused by improper storage. How to store rubber?
It is necessary
Clean and dry area, polyethylene for packing tires
Instructions
Step 1
It should immediately be said about some of the procedures that must be performed before putting the rubber in storage. Before removal, you need to mark and mark exactly where the rubber was installed and in which direction it was used. This can be done with crayons or special paint. Also buy different colored spools from any car dealer to distinguish between the front and rear wheels if you store the rubber directly on the disks.
Step 2
After removing the wheels, wash them thoroughly. Remove from the tread any dirt and stones that remain there after use. Dry the rubber well. Treat it with a special preservation chemical. Do not confuse with rubber color restorer, as it contains substances that are not suitable for preservation. These measures will help protect rubber from premature deterioration and aging. Depending on the storage location, it is worth deciding whether to pack the wheels in polyethylene. Of course, rubber in polyethylene is more protected and looks more aesthetically pleasing, but do not pack the wheels hermetically if the rubber is on stamped metal rims. As a result of the temperature difference, condensation can accumulate on the discs, which will contribute to the appearance of premature corrosion.
Step 3
You should remember the three main factors that rubber is afraid of - direct sunlight, heat and moisture. Therefore, the tires should be stored in a dry place, in which there are no large changes in temperature. Also, never store tires outdoors as this will damage them. You can use the services of special bus storages. Many dealers and garages offer seasonal tire storage services to their customers. However, it is worth leaving the tires only if you are sure of the honesty of the service or the dealer. Before returning your tires, put some kind of secret on them to make sure later that they returned to you exactly the tires that you returned.
Step 4
Tires can be stored on disks or removed. Both options are perfectly acceptable. Of course, storing tires on disks is much better, since they are always ready for replacement and in this state they get less moisture and dust. But not every motorist can afford to purchase a second set of discs. If you store tires on rims, then they must either be suspended from the holes in the rim, or laid flat. Never store the tires in a standing position, as this creates pressure on the lower part, which can deform from this. If you store rubber without discs, then everything should be done the other way around. Do not hang the rubber as the edge that touches the object the tire is hanging on will begin to deform. Store tires only in a standing position.
