There are two troubles in Russia - fools and roads. In Italy, the roads are of high quality, as the state policy of building motorways began under Mussolini, and the main part of the road network was built in the 1970s and 1980s. But as drivers, Italians are considered the worst in Europe.

Another poll among drivers of the European Union, conducted in 2009 by European car magazines, clearly showed this. More than 30% of those surveyed recognized the driving skills of Italians as lower than those of other European countries. And 17% called the inhabitants of the Apennines completely useless. The main signs of such behavior were named: dangerous driving style - 45%, absent-mindedness while driving - 39%, aggressive behavior - 34%.

The Internet company Zoover, which helps to organize independently or choose an offer of travel agencies for rest and travel, conducted a survey among its visitors. Of more than 30,000 respondents, 23% rated Italians as the most careless drivers of all 15 European countries. Moreover, similar polls conducted over the past three years showed the same results.

Recent research by the Englishman John Dyson, a car enthusiast and freelance journalist for automotive publications, has shown that there is a country with the worst drivers in the European Union. Two months of surveys among European truckers, bus drivers and other professional road users showed the following results. By themselves, Italians are very kind, sociable and compliant. Until they get behind the wheel. After that, they can only be described as the craziest and most dangerous drivers. They especially annoyed the Portuguese with their manner of driving. It was they who expressed the largest number of complaints about the driving quality of Italians.

Equally interesting is that representatives of the Italian traffic police do not see anything wrong with the behavior of their fellow citizens on the road. On the contrary, they are proud of their national driving habits and try to present them in the most favorable light.

The statistics of road traffic accidents in Europe confirm the research carried out. More than 10% of all road traffic accidents are Italians. But the French, for example, are three times less. The number of victims on the roads of Italy remains very high. Police report 6,200 deaths from car accidents, while doctors report 8,700.
