If stored improperly, car tires can lose not only their appearance, but also their plasticity, which in turn affects road safety. To avoid this, you need to know the rules for storing tires.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a place to store your tires. Consider the factors that they cannot be kept in a draft for a long time, under direct sunlight. It is better if the room is dark for these purposes. The air temperature in it should be constant, optimally 10-20 degrees above zero.
Step 2
Make sure the selected area is clean, dry and well ventilated. High humidity leads to the development of corrosion on steel cords. The place for storing tires should not contain electric motors and devices that generate ozone, oily substances (gasoline and other fuels and lubricants).
Step 3
Wash dirty tires, dry them well. Clean the nipples from dirt, wipe thoroughly with a dry cloth. Deflate inflated tires to about half of normal pressure. Spray them with a special preservative spray, available from your auto shop.
Step 4
Store discless tires upright to avoid warping, if you can. When storing them with discs in a horizontal position, stack them in stacks no more than one meter high (for passenger car and truck tires). Large truck tires can be stacked up to one and a half meters high.
Step 5
If you decide to store tires on the car, then increase the pressure in them by a quarter of normal. To avoid flattening with this storage method, roll the vehicle out of the garage every three months.
