Sometimes, when refueling our car at gas stations, we do not even know what we are actually filling it with and what this may turn out to be in the future. How to recognize bad fuel?
Necessary
- - a blank sheet of paper;
- - glass;
- - transparent container;
- - potassium permanganate.
Instructions
Step 1
The first and easiest way to test the quality of the gasoline is to apply it to your skin and rub it in. If the skin remains dry, then such gasoline can be poured into the tank. But if there are greasy spots on it, then there are impurities in the fuel.
Step 2
For the next check, you will need a sheet of white paper. Moisten it with fuel and wait for the liquid to evaporate. If you have a blank sheet in front of you, then such fuel can be used. If there are greasy spots on the paper, then this gasoline is with impurities.
Step 3
You can also check gasoline for tar content. Drop it on the glass and set it on fire. If a white spot appears on the glass, then there is no tar in the fuel, and if there is, then very little. If the spots are yellow or brown, then the resin content exceeds the permissible limits. If a few drops of gasoline remain on the glass, the fuel may contain diesel oil.
Step 4
Take a transparent container, pour gasoline into it and look at the light - the liquid should be yellowish. Now add a little potassium permanganate to the container, and if the fuel turns pink, then there is water in the gasoline.
Step 5
You can try to identify impurities by smell. If the gasoline smells of sulfur, then the gasoline may contain hydrogen sulfide. Possibly naphthalene too. In any case, there are harmful impurities there, and it is better not to refuel with such gasoline.
