Moscow authorities continue to struggle with traffic jams on the streets. One of the chosen means is the allocation of special lanes for public transport, along which cars of other citizens can move only on weekends and holidays. In the summer of 2012, an experiment was started to fence off the designated lanes with special curbs.
The lanes allocated for public transport in Moscow began to be fenced with curbs. In appearance, the curb resembles a "speed bump", equipped with a low palisade of vertical posts. The curb is installed parallel to the movement along the dividing strip. The fence is made of flexible plastic, so it is not damaged when hit. Delineators, namely the so-called new curbs, were developed according to TU No. 2539-004-31944048-2008 and agreed with the Department of Road Safety.
Experimentally, the curbs were installed on two highways - Proletarsky Prospekt and Ozernaya Street. During the month, the traffic police closely monitored the violations. The experiment showed that the number of trips to the designated lane became approximately two times less. Thus, the effectiveness of dividing curbs has been proven in practice. Drivers and passengers of public transport appreciated the innovation positively, travel time was significantly reduced, and there were fewer road accidents.
Since the experiment was considered successful, the massive introduction of borders throughout Moscow is only a matter of time. In the next three years, it is planned to open another 300 km of dedicated roads, all of them will be fenced with curbs. At the same time, the capacity of the streets will, of course, decrease, but the city authorities are betting on the development of public transport - Muscovites will have to change to metro, buses and trams.
Currently, a curb model is being actively developed. All samples offered by manufacturers undergo rigorous selection and testing. There may be different types of fences on different roads. When the samples that meet all safety standards are approved, the mass installation of borders will begin in Moscow.
