Car headlights and lamps are often damaged by even minor traffic accidents. You can repair them yourself, especially since it happens that the necessary parts for the headlights of VAZ old models simply cannot be obtained.
It is necessary
- - head to "10";
- - slotted screwdriver;
- - plastic glue - "cold welding";
- - sealant;
- - hair dryer-soldering iron;
- - compressor;
- - plexiglass;
- - file;
- - fine sandpaper;
- - a piece of felt;
- - new lamps.
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Remove the headlamp cover. To do this, turn it counterclockwise.
Step 2
Remove the connector from the lamp. Take out its cartridge. Press and turn the bulb counterclockwise and remove it from the socket. While doing this, hold it by the base, as it may be serviceable.
Step 3
To remove the headlamp, press the lock and, turning it counterclockwise, take out the hydraulic corrector cylinder. Disconnect the connector. Unscrew the headlamp fastening nuts with the “10” head and remove it. Disconnect the direction indicator by unscrewing the two screws with a slotted screwdriver.
Step 4
Inspect for damage. Use a slotted screwdriver to unscrew the headlamp wiper travel stops and remove it. Remove broken glass. Clean the inside of the headlight. Be careful not to hit the reflector when doing this. Remove old sealant from surfaces.
Step 5
Determine what the headlight housing is made of. The details of the broken body made of ABC-plastic are connected by means of "cold welding" and process the seam from the outside and inside. If the body is made of polypropylene, weld it with a blow-dryer-soldering iron (also on both sides), supplying air from the compressor.
Step 6
Repair the headlamp glass by gluing the cracks and pieces together with molecular glue or dichloroethane. Sand the unevenness of the seams on the glass with a special file and then fine sandpaper. Then polish them with a felt pad.
Step 7
If the glass is badly damaged, make a new one with clear plexiglass. Heat it up with a hair dryer and manually shape it, using a vacuum press if necessary.
Step 8
Apply a pattern to the inner surface, if desired. Glue the cap to the body with molecular glue or sealant, then put the headlight with the glass down for a while. Install the headlamp in the reverse order, replacing the faulty lamps with new ones.
