You can determine the poor condition of the catalyst in your car by the following signs: an increase in gasoline consumption; a deterioration in traction; the car has difficulty starting from a cold start. In more advanced cases, the engine constantly stalls, and the exhaust gases from the pipe do not go at all or pass with difficulty. If you see something like this, it is time to clean or change the catalyst.

The most effective way to fix catalyst problems is to replace it. Many drivers simply remove the damaged part and drive, poisoning the environment with harmful emissions. In addition, driving without a catalyst becomes less comfortable - the engine makes so much noise during operation that significant vibration is felt in the car, and the car takes off too abruptly when starting. If you are not indifferent to the air in your hometown and you prefer a comfortable ride, it is still better not to spare your money and buy a new catalyst. You can also try DIY cleaning.
Step 3
Remove the catalyst and inspect it. It often happens that the nuts "stick" tightly, and it can be difficult to remove them. Look at the "honeycomb" in the light. If there is no mechanical damage (burnout, subsidence, etc.), then you can try to rinse the part. If there is noticeable destruction of the honeycomb, it is better to just throw the catalyst away and put a new one.

Blow out the honeycomb with a carb spray. If there is too much solids, leave the catalyst overnight in any container of diesel oil, kerosene, or other similar liquid. Then repeat the carbspray purge procedure. Most often, this procedure helps to return the catalyst to its previous appearance and extend its life.
Step 5
In some cases, in order to facilitate the operation of the engine, motorists prefer to drill holes in the catalyst with a victor drill or, much less accurately, just punch a hole with a crowbar. After this procedure, the machine will work better, but the harm to the environment will increase.
