Car owners often face the problem of a failed catalyst. In the service center, they say that the filter has begun to crumble and must be thrown out and replaced with a new one. The question arises - what to do?

Cut catalyst: is it possible to sell and what does the price depend on?
Cut catalyst: is it possible to sell and what does the price depend on?

It makes no sense to throw such an expensive thing into the trash, since ceramic filters contain rather expensive elements, namely rare earth metals. You can make money on this problem by handing over a used part to a collection point for faulty converters.

Working or defective?

It doesn't matter how much time has passed during operation. A new filter can fail just as quickly as an old one. There are many reasons: bad fuel, improper operation of the exhaust system, etc. Replacing it, the engine gains a "second life": the enrichment of the air mixture is improved. The engine runs more economically and dynamics increases.

If the catalyst is subjected to mechanical or thermal stress, it can also fail. The internal shape of the catalyst is a hundred ceramic cells sputtered with rare earth metals. As you know, these metals have a high cost, so the part is accepted for recycling by specialized points.

New catalysts, as a rule, can be sold over the Internet by placing them on a website dealing with car parts, or by negotiating at a car service center. Old parts must be handed over to special collection points. There are many filter buying companies out there that offer good rewards.

The cost

The price of the catalyst upon delivery depends on a number of indicators:

Two thousand years - the heyday of the use of ceramic catalysts, which, as mentioned earlier, are more expensive due to the presence of rare earth metals, namely platinum, which is an order of magnitude more expensive than gold, but more effective than metal counterparts, which are characterized by low efficiency, but attractive a fairly low price. When handing over the ceramic filters, the car owner will not have any difficulties, he will not need to smelt metals from the catalyst, for him all the work will be done by professionals.

The value of the cost depends on the class of the car, so expensive luxury cars have several catalysts due to the increased fuel system, where two or even three such elements are installed. Their total cost is increasing. The more expensive the car, the greater the revenue from the delivery of expensive filters.

It should be added that the cost is influenced by such temporary factors as the year of manufacture. Over time, the catalyst undergoes more wear and tear and it will be more difficult to get all the precious metals out of it than from a new, recently installed one.

For a diesel engine, the catalyst is more expensive than for a gasoline engine, since it has a more complex design. In the service center, you can get about 8,000 rubles for it. This will fully cover the costs of installing the blende and firmware of the engine.
