When the vehicle is braking, the pressure applied to the pedal is transferred to the brake pads. They press against the brake disc or drum and stop its rotation. In order for the braking to be as effective as possible, it is necessary to correctly select the components of the braking system, including the brake pads.

Step 1
When choosing pads, ask about the friction materials of the pads attached to the metal plate. For the manufacture of friction materials, several hundred components are used: special resins, organic and mineral fibers, fillers. It is advisable to choose pads that use a multicomponent formulation, which makes the pads more manageable and also allows them to perform well in high temperature conditions.

Make sure the pads you choose are the right size and fit for your car model. But even the same size may not be enough. The fact is that different pads can withstand different loads. Some car brands may have the same brake systems, but different brake pads. If in doubt, check with the seller.
Step 3
The front pads bear the main load during braking, and therefore wear out about three times faster than the rear pads. To control wear, some manufacturers use special mechanical or electronic devices on their brake pads. Electronic control systems are more preferable, since they do not give out a mechanical squeak in case of wear, but activate a special indicator on the dashboard.
Step 4
If you intend to replace the brake pads with new ones, then it is better to completely replace the entire set. In other words, if you need to replace a rear block, replace them on both rear wheels. Otherwise, new and worn-out pads will brake differently, which will immediately negatively affect the vehicle's handling.
Step 5
An important role in the choice of brake pads is played by their price. It usually depends on the quality of the friction material. Genuine pads are usually priced higher, which guarantees high quality when compared to third party products. Resist the temptation to purchase cheap remanufactured pads or products of obscure origin that are often traded in the markets. The savings can be expensive later on.
