It is often a common misconception that brake squeaks are only common in older cars. This is not true. An unpleasant sound may appear on a completely new car. Another misconception is that a squeak is a sign of a decrease in the efficiency of the braking system. In fact, the ability of the brakes to perform their functions does not decrease, the squeak causes only negative sensations for the driver, passengers and people around the car. One of the main reasons for the appearance of squeaks and whistles is poor-quality brake pad material. In this case, already new fake pads begin to emit unpleasant sounds when the working surfaces come into contact with the disc. It is highly recommended to replace low-quality pads with branded ones as soon as possible. Prolonged use of bad pads will damage the brake discs and require replacement of these discs. The next reason for the appearance of squeaks and whistles may be incompatibility of pads and discs. This is due to the fact that different manufacturers use different components to make pads and improve their performance. It is the incompatibility of components that causes unpleasant sounds. Especially often the facts of acquiring "wrong" pads come across in the conditions of a shortage of spare parts for foreign cars. Hence the advice: do not skimp on brake pads. Always get genuine parts recommended for use on your vehicle. Another cause of squeakiness is the natural process of breaking in new pads. So if they start to creak immediately after installing new pads, wait a couple of days. Perhaps unpleasant sounds will go away by themselves as soon as the top layer of the pads with a protective admixture is erased. To speed up this process, accelerate to 100 km / h several times and brake vigorously. After 2-3 repetitions, the pads will warm up to the maximum temperature and excess impurities will begin to burn out. If, even after a certain distance, squeaks and whistles continue, change the pads. Also, there have been cases of squeaking as a result of water and dirt getting inside the brake mechanisms. It is treated by cleaning or waiting. Cases of the appearance of unpleasant sounds during the onset of frost are rare, but they do occur. If old pads begin to creak, this is evidence of their wear. The fact is that the pads have a metal plate (wear indicator) that starts to come into contact with the disc when excessive wear occurs. The squeal or squeak that appears at the same time is intended to signal the immediate replacement of the pads. However, this plate may be poorly attached and begin to contact the disc prematurely, when the pads did not even have time to seriously wear out. Pads squeak is unpleasant, causes discomfort and dislike, but is not dangerous in most cases. To determine the cause of these phenomena, completely check the brake system for foreign objects, pad wear, pistons, wear indicators and guides. Completely disassemble, clean and assemble the brakes. If the entire set of measures described does not help, look for the cause in a malfunction of the brake cylinders.
