The induction motor does not contain permanent magnets on either the stator or the rotor. Its rotor is short-circuited. Therefore, in order for such an engine to be used as a generator, it is necessary to resort to the use of additional elements.

Instructions

Step 1

Connect the motor windings in the traditional way - with a triangle or a star, depending on what voltage you want to receive at the generator output. In both cases, it will be three-phase. Two voltages are indicated on the motor through a fraction - the smaller of them corresponds to the voltage between any two phases when turned on with a triangle, and the larger one when turned on with a star.

Step 2

Take three non-polar capacitors with a capacity of about 20 μF. In no case should they be electrolytic - even non-polar capacitors of this type are not suitable. Their rated voltage must be at least 500 V. Make sure, using a DC voltmeter, that they are discharged, if necessary, discharge with a regular incandescent lamp.

Step 3

Connect the capacitors as follows:

- the first - between phases A and B;

- the second - between phases B and C;

- the third - between phases A and C.

Step 4

Install a three-phase circuit breaker after the motor and capacitors to disconnect the generator from the load. If it is unscrewed while the load is connected, it may not start generating voltage.

Step 5

Connect the load after the machine, disconnect the machine itself. Spin the engine up to the rated speed, wait a few seconds, then turn on the machine. The voltage will be applied to the load.

Step 6

Do not use ferroresonant stabilizers in conjunction with a home-made asynchronous generator, since the frequency of the voltage generated by it is unstable. Do not supply loads that are sensitive to voltage and frequency changes from it.

Step 7

If you want to install the generator on an exercise bike, as well as improve its electrical part, follow the advice from the page below.
