In a number of situations, a Russian or foreign citizen may want to use in Russia the rights issued in another country. In this case, it is necessary to take into account all the legal nuances of such a situation so as not to be fined as not having the right to drive.
Instructions
Step 1
If you came to Russia for a short time, then you do not need to exchange your license. You can continue to use your foreign driver's license. This applies both to Russian citizens permanently residing abroad and being registered there by the consulate, and to foreigners who have arrived in the country for less than ninety days on a short-stay visa.
Step 2
In the event that your foreign rights do not contain text in English, translate them into Russian and have the translation certified by a notary.
Step 3
In case of a long stay in Russia, get yourself a local driver's license. This must be done after receiving registration at the place of residence, if you are a citizen of Russia. A foreigner must exchange rights within two months after receiving a residence permit in the Russian Federation.
Step 4
Contact the traffic police at the place of residence with your rights, as well as a passport with a residence permit or other document that gives you the right to live in Russia. Also, in advance, get a medical certificate stating that you are able to drive a car. You can get it at a public clinic or a private medical center.
Step 5
Sign up for a driving license exam. The traffic police will tell you the program of these tests and appoint a date for their passage. Upon successful delivery, you will receive a Russian driver's license.
