Many car enthusiasts cannot learn how to do basic repairs to their car. The most essential thing that can be easily learned is changing tires. This avoids contact with service personnel and saves money.
Instructions
Step 1
First, find a place where you can safely and easily change your tires. If this happens on the road, first make sure the surface is level and park the car. If you stop at the side of the road, be sure to turn on the hazard warning lights and put the car on the handbrake. Get your spare wheel and necessary tools.
Step 2
Carefully loosen the clamping nut on the rail by turning it half a turn clockwise. Be careful not to unscrew the nut completely, because the wheel may just fly off on you. Take a jack and use it to raise the car. Make sure that the jack is in good condition beforehand, otherwise you risk lifting the machine higher than it should be or even damage it.
Step 3
After lifting, unscrew the nuts completely and set aside. Remember that losing the nuts is extremely undesirable, because they will also need to screw the spare wheel. Remove the flat tire and place it on the ground. The holes on the spare tire must line up with the holes on the axle. Make sure the nipple stem is pointing towards you, otherwise you have installed the tire incorrectly. If you find such a defect, remove the tire and turn it over on the ground.
Step 4
After you put on the new tire, remove the nuts and tighten them with a wrench. Use a Torx screwdriver for final tightening to ensure that the tire stays in place. Remember it is best to use a torque wrench to avoid stress in the brake drums. Change tires in pairs, if possible, to achieve roughly the same service life. Lower the jack and pull it out from under the car. Place the tool and spare tire in the trunk.
