When changing the oil in the classic model of an automatic transmission (automatic transmission), several well-known methods are used: partial replacement, replacement and replacement of fluid at a special stand. Of these, the first is the most accessible and safe.

Necessary

  • - new ATF fluid;
  • - container for waste liquid;
  • - measuring capacity;
  • - a new gasket for the automatic transmission pallet drain plug;
  • - torque wrench;
  • - a funnel with a narrow neck and a thin hose;
  • - jack or special lift.

Instructions

Step 1

Before you start changing the ATF, you need to drive the car for 20-30 km at an intensive pace in order for the automatic transmission to warm up to operating temperature. The cold liquid will not drain completely.

Step 2

Then, park your vehicle on a level, hard surface. Put the selector in parking mode, apply the handbrake. Stop the engine and switch off the ignition.

Step 3

Place chocks under the rear wheels of the vehicle, jack up the vehicle evenly so that the front part remains parallel to the ground. Install the safety supports.

Step 4

Place a container for the used ATF under the drain plug. Open the plug with a suitable wrench. Allow the entire volume of liquid to drain completely. You should wait until such a moment when even drops disappear. Then tighten the plug with a new O-ring using a torque wrench. The tightening torque is usually indicated in the vehicle manual. Be careful not to strip the plug threads. Also remember that the transmission fluid is very hot and can injure you. Remember to wear safety glasses.

Step 5

Using a narrow funnel with a long spout, fill in the amount of new fluid that has drained into the waste container through the dipstick hole. Be careful not to exceed the level indicated on the dipstick. It is best to add fluid slowly and check the level periodically.

Step 6

Start the car, let it idle. When the system is fully warmed up, switch the selector to different positions while holding the brake pedal. This will mix the volume of the new and old fluid.

Step 7

Now you need to drive 300 - 500 km, while monitoring the presence of smudges and the ATF level. After that, repeat the described steps a few more times.
