Motorists remember by heart the license plates of their car, the date of issue of the license and a lot of other relevant information. However, it is unlikely that even the most experienced of them will be able to remember the VIN number. However, this is not necessary. The main thing is to know exactly where and how to find this number if necessary.
Instructions
Step 1
The VIN-code of the car consists of seventeen characters, each of which carries specific information about the car. To find the VIN, first look at the vehicle documents. This can be a passport of a technical device (PTS), a certificate of registration or an insurance policy.
Step 2
When buying a used car, be especially careful to match the VIN number indicated on the vehicle documents. Examine the car and find the VIN plates. They are usually located under the hood, on the arch of the driver's door or at the bottom of the windshield. Commit the code to test it using a database on the internet.
Step 3
VIN-number is conventionally divided into 3 parts. The first three digits indicate the index of the country of the manufacturer, the manufacturer itself, as well as the typical description. So, the numbers 145 indicate that the car was produced in the USA by the Buick corporation. The decoding is as follows: 1 - this is the USA; 4 - Buick manufacturing company; 5 - description of the machine. In the next part of the VIN, the ninth digit is important, which is considered a check for the entire number. It is used to find out the correctness of the VIN in general. Code characters 10 through 17 describe the distinctive qualities of the machine. The 10th character identifies the year of manufacture and can be either a number or a letter. For example: A - 1980; 6 - 2006, etc.
Step 4
Check VIN online. Many sites provide the ability to decrypt the VIN number. Here are just a few of them: https://vin.auto.ru, https://vin.su, https://www.vin2.ru. Go to one of the addresses and follow the instructions on the site. Check the car selected for purchase for the presence of collateral, the correctness of the VIN number, vehicle equipment (not all information may be available).
