The latest regulations allow the use of not only factory tinting, but also shade the glass yourself. It is only important to comply with the requirements of the law, regulated by GOST and the traffic police.
Toning requirements
Officially, today it is allowed to tint the rear window of the car, two side windows; it is also possible to stick the strip on the windshield, provided that its width does not exceed 14 cm. In principle, all glass can be tinted if their light transmittance exceeds 70%. But when using toning with such a value, it will not darken in the cabin. It should also be borne in mind that most manufacturers produce cars that already have a tint of 85-90%, so sticking the most transparent film on such glass can reduce the light transmittance below 70%.
Even a new glass of a car without tinting does not transmit 100% of light; the usual value is 95%. That is, if you stick a film on a new glass that transmits 70% of the light, the final value can be calculated by multiplying 0.95 (new glass) by 0.7 (film), the result will be 0.665, which is 66.5% … Such a film will no longer meet the requirements of the traffic police. In Russia, glass tinting with a film (or other method) with a light transmittance of less than 70% is allowed only for special purpose vehicles.
Responsibility for violation of the requirements for toning
A driver who has violated the requirements for tinted glass is fined 500 rubles, and in some cases license plates are removed. It does not matter if one glass did not comply with the rules or several. Also, the punishment does not depend on how many percent the tinting does not comply with the rules; no matter how much falls short of the standards - 5% or 20%.
The inspector has the right to pick up the license plate if the driver cannot (or does not want) to remove the tinting right on the spot. In this case, the offender has one day to eliminate the "malfunction", while it is allowed to follow the car only to the place of elimination of toning; for example, to the nearest car service. Then you will have to come for the numbers yourself, or they will be sent to you by mail, which in any case leads to a loss of time. If you remove the tinting on the spot after the fine has already been issued, the license plates will remain on the car, and you will only have to pay the fine. The latter will be imposed in any case, even if the tint film can be removed before the punishment is issued. Recently, removable tinting has been used, which allows you to quickly return the required light transmittance to the car windows. However, the use of such a "novelty" will not help to avoid punishment.
