Many future and even experienced car enthusiasts, when choosing a configuration for a new car, are horrified by the large number of options available to a modern car. One of them ESP is electronic stability control. What is behind these three letters? Does it make sense to overpay for this option?

Step 1
In fact, ESP is by no means a cutting edge invention. The first to enter the market were engineers from Mercedes-Benz and BMW in 1987. A little later, in 1990, specialists from Japan caught up with them.
Step 2
How does ESP work? The purpose of this assistance system is to prevent the vehicle from skidding on the highway. It works on principles similar to ABS - a system that prevents the car from skidding when braking. Technically speaking, ECS is just an electronic control unit that commands ABS.
If a skid begins, the system brakes one or two of the wheels of the car, thereby leveling it.
Step 3
Do I need to overpay for ESP? To answer this question, we present the results of tests carried out by specialists from the United States. In their opinion, the widespread use of ESP can reduce the percentage of accidents by 50%. The figure of their Japanese colleagues is lower, only 35%, but if you think about it, it is also very impressive.
And in the conditions of our winter (ice, snow, water), it seems to be irreplaceable at all.
