Very often, the cause of a power failure in domestic cars is a blown out of one of the fuses. Replacing a defective element can be done by yourself, it will take very little time.

In VAZ cars, fuses are located in one or more mounting blocks. Car enthusiasts are strongly advised to have spare fuses in the car in case of failure of the already installed ones. In domestic cars, fuses of different ratings are used, from 7.5 to 30 amperes inclusive. When replacing, it is not allowed to install fuses of a different rating or connect the contacts directly, even for a short period of time or to check: if the cause of the operation was a short circuit, the installation of the "bug" will disable the on-board network or its individual element.

Block and fuse types

Depending on the year of manufacture, different models of VAZ cars are equipped with different types of mounting blocks designed to use several types of fuses. The layout of the elements is usually indicated on the cover of the block.

Fuses are of two types: cylindrical and forked. Cylindrical fuses are in the form of a ceramic tube with metal caps at the ends. Fork fuses have a plastic case, rectangular, at the bottom there are two flat contact legs. Both types of housing have the number of the fuse and the amperage for which it is designed.

Where are the mounting blocks

In classic models, the mounting blocks are made in the form of pencil cases and are located mainly under the dashboard on the driver's side. They have only two rows of fuses: main and auxiliary, and no other elements. For convenient work with the unit, it should be removed by unscrewing the two nuts securing the body to the body.

In VAZ cars, starting from the eighth generation, the fuse box is located at the rear of the engine compartment on the left side. The block looks like a plastic box with an openable lid. Inside it are installed one or more rows of fuses, headlight relays, alarm, turns, wipers, and other components. In different years of production, these machines were equipped with different types of mounting blocks.

How to replace fuses

Replacing fuses in VAZ cars is quite simple. In the new mounting block, plastic tweezers are fixed with a special retainer, with which the fuses are removed and installed in place. Unlike the old block, in the new one you can replace the fuses without removing the negative terminal of the battery.

Older units use tube fuses. Their main disadvantage is that the contact clamps do not provide a strong fixation, and therefore the fuses often come off or completely fall out. Sometimes, due to poor contact, strong heating occurs, which makes the plastic case unusable. Each time the fuse is replaced in old blocks, it is necessary to bend the terminals to make the fixation more tight.
