When buying a used car, you should pay close attention to the gearbox. By properly checking this most important part of the machine, you will protect yourself from possible troubles in the future.

Instructions

Step 1

Checking the manual transmission will not be difficult. It will be enough for you to pay attention to the clarity of the gears and the presence of noise while driving. If the gear does not have to be "stuck", the handle does not spontaneously "fly out" of the engaged gear, and while the car is moving from the side of the box, no extraneous noise is heard, then everything is in order with the box.

Step 2

In the case of an automatic transmission, you need to be more careful. It is imperative to check the oil level. To do this, remove the dipstick from the box, wipe it, insert it into place, and pull it out again. The oil level must not be below the minimum mark. Here you should pay attention to the color and composition of the oil. If the oil is dark or contains metal chips, it is best to refrain from buying such a car. In addition, the oil should not have a burning smell.

Step 3

If you are convinced that the level, color and smell of the oil is within the normal range, start the car and check the automatic transmission mode switching. After the engine has warmed up to operating temperature, try changing modes. Switching should be done clearly and without delays. If you notice that there is a delay, jolt or shock between Parking and Drive or Drive and Reverse modes, this will be a clear signal of possible malfunctions in the transmission. Also notice if the car "jerks" forward if you switch to Drive mode with your foot on the brake. Such "zeal" will be evidence of the correct operation of the box.

Step 4

By comparing all the information obtained as a result of the inspection, you will be able to draw the correct conclusion about the operation of the gearbox.
