An inexperienced motorist can get confused if he is faced with the task of removing the gearbox. Theoretically, there are no pitfalls in this operation, and you can cope with its implementation with the help of the simplest equipment.
However, in order to remove the gearbox without difficulty, you need an appropriately equipped room - there must be a viewing hole or a special lift in it. If you do not have the opportunity to carry out work in such a room, it is better to leave this procedure to the car service employees.
- First you need to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Do not forget that all work is carried out only with a completely cooled engine.
- Then it is necessary to disconnect the cardan transmission from the gearbox, and then remove it from the car.
- The intake pipe of the mufflers must also be dismantled; try to perform this operation carefully and carefully.
- Now you need to disconnect the terminals from the reversing light switch.
- We proceed directly to dismantling the gearbox: we pry the rings that hold the mat with a screwdriver and disconnect them. From under the mat, remove the lid with the foam seal, lift the mat and remove the handle.
- Now with a wrench it is necessary to unscrew the central bolt, after which the two upper bolts that attach the starter to the clutch housing should be unscrewed with a head with a universal joint or a wrench.
- The four bolts that secure the clutch housing cover are also loosened with a wrench. In order to unscrew the remaining three bolts securing the clutch housing, it is necessary to use the head with the universal joint on the wrench extension.
- The gearbox is now unsecured and can be easily removed by sliding it back a little. The subsequent installation must be carried out strictly in the reverse order, having previously lubricated the spline end of the input shaft.
