The first Mercedes was a racing car. Its newest successor carries on a glorious legacy today: with the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG GT, the Mercedes-Benz sports brand is making its debut in a new high-end sports car segment. The GT is the second sports car fully developed by Mercedes-AMG.
A front-mid engine layout with spaced-apart drive units and intelligent use of lightweight aluminum structures are the key to the brightest feeling of sporty dynamics.
The sporty dynamics characteristic of AMG are also emphasized by the newly developed AMG V8 biturbo engine with 4.0 l displacement, which is produced in Affalterbach according to the "One man, one engine" principle. There, at the AMG Engine Manufactory, highly trained engine assemblers manually assemble the powertrains to the strictest quality standards, as evidenced by the AMG nameplate on the engine with the signature of the mechanic who assembled it.
It is the first powertrain for a sports car to have turbochargers located inside a camber (“hot V-cam”) and a dry sump lubrication system. It is offered in two different power ratings: 340 kW (462 hp) for the GT and 375 kW (510 hp) for the GT S.
The new GT combines high dynamics and first-class performance on the racetrack with high everyday practicality and economy, which sets new standards in this segment. At the same time, this two-seater car, thanks to a practical boot lid, well-thought-out boot space, high comfort of long-distance travel and an extensive arsenal of Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive auxiliary systems, will become a simple, convenient and reliable companion for the motorist in everyday life.
